Tips for Mondays

Hey everyone! Happy Monday! Hope you all had a fun, stress free weekend. This past weekend definitely was a bit different then others. It started with someone hitting my brand new car (I'm totally okay), and five minutes ago it just got towed so it can get fixed. Not the way I was planning to spend my weekend or week, but I guess it's Monday, so cheers?

Monday blues are definitely real, and I wanted to share some tips of how to get through it successfully, and happier then it started.

1. Start your day with a healthy breakfast

Maybe your mother was right.... I know that's a no brainer, but some people forget to eat. According to WebMD , Live Strong, and nutritionists, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Even if that means a bowl of oatmeal with fruit or a smoothie, your starting your day more successful than without it. It gives you energy for your day, gives you your essential vitamins and minerals, maintains weight control, gets your brain working, and more strength for physical activity. I usually start with organic egg whites, one organic egg, spinach, and a quarter of an avocado. It's currently my go-to every morning. 

2. Listen to your favorite music while getting ready for your day

I don't know about you, but when I start listening to my favorite tunes or artists as soon as I start my day, it gives me so much more energy. Whether it's in the shower, making breakfast, or at my work desk, I feel more productive and it signals my brain that it's going to be a better day. Every month I make a playlist with all of my favorite tunes on Spotify, and that definitely helps set my mood for the day. If you don't do that, maybe you should try it and see how it goes. 

3. Make a to-do list for the day and week

Lists are my life-saver. If you're not a list person, highlight your weekly calendar with your to-do's a make them notifications on your phone so you are reminded of what needs to be done. My brain sometimes is all over the place, or doesn't work at all. So having a list of what needs to be done for the day and/or week really helps me prepared for whats to come. There's something satisfying about hitting that check box, drawing a line through the task, or deleting it from your list once the task is finished. My favorite app for making lists is Stripes. You can easily add your daily tasks, and make different checklists for different activities with color codes. Highly recommend it if you're not a person who writes down your list.

4. Make time for physical activity or a workout

I'm a huge fan of working out and think it's so important for your health. When you start your week with some physical activity, it sets a mood for the week. I feel unstoppable when I start my week with a workout. My favorite time to workout on Mondays are at the end of the day. If you've had stressful Monday at the office or work setting, working out is a great way to deal with it. There's a reason why when you to go the gym at 6pm or later, or book a workout class at 5:30pm it's completely full. I'm not saying that everyone has stressful days, but its a great way to take on the week for your mental and physical health. If you don't have time to workout at all, make sure to do it sometime during the week, or try a home workout. Youtube is saturated with awesome videos, or the Nike Training app and Yoga Studio are my two favorite workout apps for at home.

5. Be clean!

Having a clean living area is so important. When my living space is clean, it makes me want to keep that area spotless, which then leads me to stay more organized. Starting the week with a clean house then also makes me want to keep my office space and everything else more organized around me. If I didn't clean over the weekend, I try to make some time to do it on Monday evening after the work day is finished, or any time during the day I have some free time. Being organized is the best way to start your week.

Mondays are usually the day a lot of people dread (including myself), but I'm wanting to change that with these five simple things. It can also be an attitude check for myself. I think if we approach Monday with a positive outlook, it can set the mood and tone for a productive week.
